There’s not much worse than an obligatory Valentine’s dinner date because you don’t know what else to do for the holiday. Maybe you have a tradition of eating out for Valentine’s Day, but it is oh so predictable.
Valentine’s Day is tough. It’s expected that you do some grand romantic gesture if you’re in a relationship, or sometimes even (or especially) if you’re not quite in that relationship yet. Suffice to say, there are expectations. But what if you could change the conversation and throw off your significant other’s expectations?
Go for a surprise!
It need not be extravagant, but adding a little unexpected fun to your Valentine’s day is sure to show your significant other you care.
- Getaway! Valentine’s Day is on a Friday this year (2020) so it’s the perfect chance to do something a little more special over the weekend! Pack your date’s bag while they’re at work and surprise them with a romantic weekend when they get home.
- Breakfast in Bed! Starting the morning with a thoughtful gesture will surely make their day. This one is a great option if you’re on a tight budget, too.
- Get tickets for a local event! We’re big fans of gifts that foster experiences and memories, not stuffed animals that sit on the shelf. See what is going on in your city for a fun date night. If you’re in Oklahoma, here’s a great list of events: https://www.uncoveringoklahoma.com/activities/date-guide/valentines-day-events/
- Take a walk down memory lane! Revisit some of your favorite places as a couple, like where you met, your go-to dessert spot, or that park bench where you had your first kiss. Go ahead, get a little sentimental!
- Go stargazing! Do a little prep work and find a place with a fantastic view of the stars, be it a rooftop bar, a park, or a hill outside of town. Bring some wine or hot chocolate and blankets and take a moment to enjoy the beauty of the night sky.
- Spread the love! Tape up little notes of affirmation around the house, the car, their lunch, etc. It’s great to know you’re loved and they’ll have fun finding the notes throughout the day.
- Be Unexpected! Show up at their work during a time you know they’ll be available and bring their favorite coffee drink or snack. Little pick-me-ups are the absolute best.
- Clean the house! I know this one isn’t all that glamorous, but it may be the best gift you could give your significant other! Plan a big reveal Chip and Jo style.
- Throw a party! Throw a surprise Valentine’s day party with all of your couple friends. Just make sure your significant other wasn’t expecting a romantic night with just the two of you.
- Book a photoshoot! When was the last time you took photos together as a couple, if ever? Surely it’s time for some new ones. They’ll probably need a little warning before this one, so maybe don’t make it a total surprise! Go one step further by booking them a day of pampering beforehand with a hair and makeup session or a fresh shave.
