Wedding planning doesn’t have to be difficult! Well, we can’t vouch for other vendors, but we totally get that you want beautiful stationery without a big hassle or endless email chains. We like to keep things simple by having one planning session, quick communication, and easy design updates. Whether you work with us or another stationer, here are a few quick steps you can take to ensure that the stationery planning process is a breeze.
Get your numbers straight
Before we get into the fun part of stationery, you need to know your numbers. We always start with a quote so you know exactly what you’re getting for your money. In order to get the most accurate quote, you’ll need to know how many you will need. Hint: number of invitations DOES NOT equal your guest count!! Our general rule for estimating is 60% of your guest count, but it’s better if you can go through your list and get a count of the number of households. Of course things change throughout the planning process, so this quantity can be updated right until printing.
Know how many pieces you need
Are you dreaming of that complete suite with invitations, rsvp, map, details cards, the works? Or are you keeping things simple with an invitation and a card with the link to your wedding website? Decide which pieces are necessary to include and which pieces you would like.
Collect your inspiration and must-haves
Mood boards, color swatches, and fonts.. oh my! Here’s the fun part! Gather inspiration that *sparks joy* (thanks for the tip, Marie Kondo!) and any color swatches that are guiding your wedding’s design. If you can provide a clear idea of what you’re looking for, we can minimize email back-and-forth, get you exactly what you want, and get you on your way! Not sure what you want? No need to worry, just bring what you have and we’ll figure it out over a cup of coffee or phone call.
Finally, gather all the details
Ultimately, an invitation’s purpose is to convey the important information about your wedding, so naturally we’ll need to have that information! The must-haves are the date, time and location. Of these, usually the ceremony time is the trickiest to figure out and the most likely to change. We suggest talking this over with your planner (if you have one), venue, photographer, and any other key players.
Other information you’ll likely need includes the venue address, RSVP by date, wedding website, accommodations, registry information, and wording. If you need help with knowing what to say, check out our free wording guide.
A little planning up-front can really help keep things simple when it comes to stationery design. When you have these four aspects thought out, we can take care of the details quickly and focus on creating the beautifully designed invites you’ve been dreaming of.
