Is this you: you have just got your photos back from your engagement photo shoot and there are SO many good ones! You have too many you want to use in your save the dates.
Or maybe this is you: you’re planning for your engagement shoot and you’re trying to find out what kind of photos you want to have. Can you relate?
Whether a professional photographer is taking your photos or if a friend is taking them, it can be so difficult to choose just one or two for your save the dates! Here are a couple suggestions to help you narrow down the options.
Make sure it is a high quality photo
You’ll want a good quality photo so that your save the dates don’t turn out pixelated! For a 5”x7” Save the Date, you’ll want a photo with dimensions of at least 1152 pixels x 864 pixels, or ideally a resolution of 300 pixels per inch. You can find the dimensions by right clicking on an image file and (on mac) selecting “get info” or (on a pc) selecting “properties.”
If you’re using a professional photographer, you should be receiving high-resolution photos, however if you are taking the photos yourself you may want to double check the quality.
Think about your overall theme or feel for your wedding
Don’t worry, you don’t have to have it all planned out already, but you likely already know what you want your wedding day to be like. Will it be fun and casual? Pick a photo that shows that! Maybe you’re both laughing as he carries you. Will your wedding be formal? A black and white photo will show the class and formality. Will your day be romantic? Choose a photo that shows your relationship and the feel your wedding will have.
Keep It Simple – You’re the Focus
The focus of save the dates should be you as a couple. The focus isn’t the ring (although bonus points if you can show it off too!). The focus is BOTH of you! Choose a photo that showcases both of your faces clearly. People want to see you two and your love for one another, not your backs or the one with his face covered.
Think about the Design You Would Like
Think of the save the date design as an extension of your photo and your desired wedding day. Will you want it modern and clean or romantic? Colorful or classic? Think about how your save the date can highlight and coordinate with your photo. If you’d like to have text on top of your photo, choose one that leaves room for the words to be legible
These are just a few considerations to help you choose the perfect photo for your save the dates. In the end it comes down to finding a photo that best showcases your love for your fiancé.
